The time is now for Hong Kong’s talented next-gen filmmaker Yan Yan MAK, who brings 11:11 to the table after her break into the industry with Butterfly (2004) and Merry-go-round (2010). A tale of dark lust and forbidden love, the film’s backdrop of a scorching hell on earth is brought to life in Thailand’s sultry Samut Sakhon region, fully realizing an atmospheric frontier town where a retired boxer’s fate is tied to a mother and her daughter.
